Workshop on Phenotyping Data Workflows

With the purpose of preparing for the establishment of new high-end plant phenomics infrastructure, the Computational Biology Forum at Stellenbosch University along with PhenoSA is having a one-day workshop on data storage and processing in large phenotyping workflows.

We are bringing together leading local and international research groups to share their experiences, strategies, and tools for managing high-throughput data.

Program

The workshop features a diverse group of local and international experts working at the intersection of plant genetics, phenomics, and data science. Attendees will hear from leaders at Stellenbosch University, including specialists in genetics, forestry, bioinformatics, and research-data services. Presentations will cover topics such as high-throughput sequencing data management, open-air phenotyping labs, research-data repositories, and cloud computing for large-scale research.
International contributions include experts from the Australian Plant Phenomics Network, the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University in Morocco, and researchers from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the University of Minnesota, offering insights into multi-source data integration, phenomics facility design, and environmental data in phenotyping workflows.
Industry perspectives will be shared by representatives from Amazon Web Services and the Centre for High Performance Computing, focusing on infrastructure and support for large and small research projects.
Each presentation will be followed by interactive discussions.

Joining the discussion

We invite researchers, data managers, and all stakeholders involved in plant phenotyping workflows or large-scale research data management to join us online, contribute your insights and learn from an exchange of ideas and best practices.
