[Important: To ensure a smooth and healthy experience in Accra, all attendees are kindly requested to consult their healthcare provider or national travel advisory to confirm and arrange all necessary vaccinations required for entry into Ghana. Please be aware that in order to travel to Ghana you MUST have a valid Yellow Feaver vaccination.]

There are two broad categories of Ghana Visas; those issued outside Ghana and those issued in Ghana. Visas issued in any of Ghana’s 56 Diplomatic Missions abroad cover single or multiple journeys for periods between six months to five years.
To navigate the Ghana visa and immigration process in 2026, you'll need to coordinate between the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) in Accra and the Ghanaian Embassy in your home country.
Here is a comprehensive breakdown of the current systems and requirements.

1. Types of Entry Permits
Ghana classifies its entry permits into several key categories:
Single Entry Visa: Valid for 90 days from the date of issue. This is the standard for tourists.
Multiple Entry Visa: Valid for 6 months to 5 years, depending on your travel history and the embassy's discretion.
Emergency Entry Visa (EEV) / Visa on Arrival: This is not a "walk-in" service. It requires your host in Ghana to apply for pre-approval at the GIS Headquarters in Accra (Cantonments) 3–5 days before you fly.
Gratis Visa: Typically reserved for diplomatic/official passport holders or nationals of specific countries with bilateral agreements (e.g., Malawi).

2. Immigration Requirements (The "Must-Haves")
To be granted entry by an immigration officer at Kotoka International Airport (ACC), you must have:
  • Passport Validity: Minimum of 6 months remaining.
  • Blank Pages: At least 3 blank pages for stamps.
  • Yellow Fever Card: Mandatory for all travelers over 9 months old. You must have been vaccinated at least 10 days before arrival.
  • Financial Means: You may be asked to show proof of sufficient funds for your stay.
  • Accommodation: A confirmed hotel booking or a signed invitation letter from a host (including their Ghana Card/Passport copy).

3. Application Checklist for 2026
When applying through an embassy (like Washington D.C. or New York), you will generally need to submit:
  • Online Application Form: Completed and signed.
  • Photos: 2 recent passport-sized color photos with a white background.
  • Flight Itinerary: Proof of a round-trip ticket or onward travel.
  • References in Ghana: You must provide the name, address (including the Digital Address/GPS code), and phone number of two references or your hotel.
  • Bank Statement: Some missions now require a recent statement to verify financial standing.
  • Fees: Approximately $60 (Standard) or $100+ (Expedited).

4. For Long-Term Stays (Non-Citizen Ghana Card)
If you plan to stay in Ghana for 90 days or more within a calendar year, the Ghana Immigration Service requires you to register for a Non-Citizen Ghana Card.
Cost: Approximately $120.
