Excursions
(All excursions will take place on Friday, Oct. 11)
As part of the IPPS8 side program, we offer our attendees the chance to experience cultural- as well as scientificly themed excursions. On the last conference day (Friday 11.10.24), the organizers offer four different destinations across Lincoln, from which attendees may choose one to attend.
Details of the respective trips can be found below. Further information (prices, capacity, shuttle times) will be made available in course of planning. Attendees can book their excursions via the CVent registration platform, soon.
EXCURSION 1: ENREC/Spidercam
The Eastern Nebraska Research, Extension and Education Center (ENREEC) is a research and education facility of the University of Nebraska’s Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources (IANR). ENREEC is known for its size and diversity, offering many research and educational opportunities, including field phenotyping installations.
Want to see the future of agriculture up close? On the last day of IPPS8, skip the lectures and head to the field for an exclusive tour of the UNL Field Phenotyping Facility! This state-of-the-art facility is facilitating crop research using cutting-edge technology to image plants in incredible detail. See how researchers use sophisticated camera systems to capture every aspect of plant growth, from root to leaf. This will give you a front-row seat to the science in application bringing out healthier, more productive crops for a changing world!
A tour of ENREEC's field phenotyping installations would be a great opportunity for scientists attending IPPS8 to learn more about how data is being used to create insights into crop improvement.

EXCURSION 2: Greenhouse Innovation Campus
Expand your plant science horizons on the last day of IPPS8 with a tour of the Nebraska Innovation Campus Greenhouse! This state-of-the-art facility boasts 12,800 square feet of cutting-edge greenhouse space, featuring computer-controlled environments, LED lighting, and high-throughput plant phenotyping systems. See firsthand how researchers are using these innovative technologies to push the boundaries of plant science! IPPS8 attendees interested in controlled environments can visit the facility to learn more about the latest advancements and secure potential research space.

EXCUSION 3: Sheldon Art Museum/NE Natural History Museum-Morrill
The Sheldon Museum of Art is a museum with nearly 13,000 artworks in its collection and is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums (AAM). While it might not be directly related to plant science, art can provide a great source of inspiration and a break from a long day at the conference!
University of Nebraska Museum Morill Hall
Visitors to Morrill Hall will find interactive exhibits featuring Nebraska’s past and present biological diversity, and its cultural heritage with a dedicated First Peoples of the Plains gallery. The four-level, 70,000 square foot museum is located on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln City Campus near the corner of 14th and Vine Streets in Lincoln, Nebraska.
