Erasmus Mundus Master Program in Plant Breeding

emPLANT aims at providing students interested in Plant Breeding with excellent training in science, management, law, languages and soft skills that are needed in this field by the Seed Industry and Research Institutes.

emPLANT,

European Master Program in Plant Breeding has been designed and is organized by a consortium of five European universities from five different countries: UniLaSalle Polytechnic Institute (France), University of Helsinki (Finland), Universitat Politècnica de València (Spain), Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (Sweden) and Ege University (Turkey).

The complementarity of the consortium members in terms of specializations, working methods, climatic specificities and collaboration partners produces a program that could not be offered by one organization alone. The wealth of knowledge and expertise in the fields of plant breeding, plant biology, seed technology, biotechnology of emPLANT is unique in the world.

emPLANT aims at providing students interested in Plant Breeding with excellent training in science, management, law, languages and soft skills that are needed in this field by the Seed Industry and Research Institutes.

emPLANT consortium members aims to attract excellent students from all over the world by joining their forces to provide a multidisciplinary approach of traditional and biotechnology techniques, links with management and new technologies (bioinformatics, data management etc.) that is required for future MSc/PhD graduates to obtain a comprehensive and strategic understanding of complex breeding projects in an international dimension.

INNOVATIVE TEACHING METHODS

The learning performance of the students will be improved with the help of tutorials (coaching, scaffolding, articulation, reflection, exploration) and especially through innovative working methods such as the inversed classroom, applied problem-oriented thinking such as during the Pilot Case.

Students will directly apply the theoretical knowledge they learn and immediately see the concrete impact.

During the two years, innovative teaching methods will be used such as online courses or webinars.

PERFORMANCE MONITORING AND EVALUATION

Students will follow the evaluation procedures established at each partner university of their mobility track.

Student performance will be assessed in every course. To pass the courses, the student has to pass the exam and other exercises, such as literature and laboratory reports as well as oral presentations, computer based test, written exams, internship report, tutored work reports etc.

These components will be graded according to the national grading scale and the ECTS grading scale and contribute to the final grade for the course. The student is evaluated according to the course objectives.

emPLANT project has 20 associated partners which are companies, research centers, universities or associations.
They contribute to the promotion and to the curriculum of the Master programme in Plant Breeding as well as participate in the governance of the project.

ERASMUS sholarship

Student have the opportunity to receive funding via the "SCHOLARSHIP ERASMUS MUNDUS MASTER PLANT BREEDING - EMPLANT".

Two different types of EMJMD scholarships are awarded:

  • Scholarships for Program Country students
  • Scholarships for Partner Country students (see below the exception for 12-months residency rule) which include some scholarships for students coming from targeted region of the world

To see how EMJMD scholarships are awarded, please refer to the selection procedure section.
